that there is significant potential for savings when booking hotels. The study compared eight hotel booking platforms in terms of service and terms and conditions, revealing major differences between the providers. ehotel® stood out as an outstanding provider and was awarded a ‘good’ quality rating.
The hotel portal stood out above all for its excellent terms and conditions. For 80 per cent of the trips surveyed, ehotel® was either the sole provider or the cheapest provider. In some cases, the potential savings compared to the most expensive competitor amounted to a remarkable 24 per cent of the accommodation costs. Furthermore, ehotel® offered an excellent online service with a user-friendly and informative website, as well as a transparent and secure booking process.

The German Institute for Service Quality tested eight hotel portals on the internet. Service quality was measured through ten assessments of each website by trained test users, as well as a detailed analysis of the websites. The focus was on, among other things, the value of the information provided, usability, and transparency and security in the booking process. The service analysis also covered telephone and email channels, with ten mystery calls and emails for each. A total of 198 service contacts with the hotel portals were included in the study. A second area of analysis dealt with the terms and conditions: based on fixed travel dates and ten specific hotels in Germany and abroad, the cheapest offers available on the reference date were identified, and prices, availability and cancellation options were assessed (survey period: 3–6 April 2023).
